The Alamo

While the Mexicans abandoned the Alamo after the Texas Revolution, the complex remained intact for almost forty years. The complex was subsequently used by the Mexican, Texan, and American military forces. In 1876, the U.S. Army occupied the Alamo. It was then divided into sections and briefly served as a wholesale grocery store. Today, the Alamo remains one of the most famous historic sites in Texas.

The story of the Alamo has multiple meanings, which go beyond the tragedy of its own inhabitants. Its importance to the nation and its people is rooted in the history of slavery, and its impact on Texas. This history has a strong conservative influence, which is not surprising since the church was used to sell slaves during the Civil War. However, the lore surrounding the Alamo is often exaggerated.
